Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer provides half-time technical support for federal planning, design, and construction projects ranging from $100K to $5M. The role focuses on evaluating, troubleshooting, and developing scopes of work for mechanical systems, including building automation controls. The Mechanical Engineer supports project development by ensuring designs and repairs are constructible, cost-effective, and compliant with current codes and standards.

Skills & Requirements

Required Experience & Skills
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, including project development and system commissioning.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with a federal agency on facility project/program development (specifically related to commissioning of existing facilities/control systems).
  • Expertise in building automation controls, including troubleshooting and developing control system repair scopes.
  • Strong knowledge of ASHRAE standards.
  • Ability to review drawings, specifications, and project documents for constructability and provide recommendations.
  • Skilled in preparing technical reports and presentations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project).


Preferred Experience & Skills
  • Federal project experience.
  • Familiarity with deferred maintenance and recapitalization project development.
  • Experience in facilities condition assessments and validation of repair recommendations.


Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.


Preferred Education
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Additional professional certifications in commissioning or building systems (e.g., CxA, ASHRAE certifications).
