What You Will Be Doing:
The Sheldon Jackson Museum is recruiting for a full-time, permanent, year-round Museum Services Assistant (MSA) to work at the front desk and in the galleries. During the workday, the MSA will:
- Answer questions about the history, cultures, and landscapes of Alaska.
- Assist visitors with wayfinding.
- Enforce Museum rules.
- Escort contractors.
- Carry out procedures during an emergency or alarms.
- React and use sound judgment to protect human health and safety, secure property, and safeguard collections items.
The position also performs administrative tasks such as:
- Compiling statistics.
- Creating reports and graphs.
- Handling objects, shipping, receiving, and tracking items.

The Alaska State Museums is a state educational agency comprised of the Alaska State Museum and the Sheldon Jackson Museum. It seeks to:

Position Duties and Competency-Based Minimum Qualifications:

These competencies are typically gained through a combination of education and/or experience in cultural resource operations, customer service, security, or related fields.
Special Notes:
Knowledge of Alaska Native cultures, Alaskan history, and geography is preferred. Experience with security responsibilities and safety protocols is desirable.
Requirements include:
- Valid driver’s license for quick response travel.
- Work a non-standard 37.5-hour week, including weekends during summer and some winter Saturdays, with occasional evening hours for events.
- Ability to lift or drag a person in emergencies.
- Ability to perform off-site errands like bank deposits and restocking brochures.
- Training in security systems within the first week of hire.
- CPR, AED, First Aid, and disease prevention certifications within one month of hire.
- Annual docent/greeter orientation.
Supplemental Questions:
