Job Description for Maui Hui Malama Program Assistant

Join our Maui Hui Malama team as a Program Assistant where you'll play a crucial role in supervising and engaging our youth in activities, special events, and off-site excursions for all programs. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about being positive role models for our youth.

Job Duties:

*Implement activities and games according to program/class plans

*Maintain a clean and welcoming program space

*Lead weekly shopping trips to the Maui Food Bank and stock our in-house pantry

*Transport youth from schools to afterschool programs and off-site excursions

*Prepare for program activities, including but not limited to, shopping for supplies and setting up for classes and events

*Work one-on-one as needed with individual youth requiring additional support to complete activities

*Make notes in individual youth case files

*Assist program manager with attendance and data collection

*Be flexible to include occasional evening and weekend work hours for special events and activities

*Support in all areas related to programs as advised by the Program Manager

Preferred Experience & Skills:

3+ Years’ experience working with at-risk youth and/or youth with learning differences

Working knowledge of Google Suite (Google docs, sheets, and forms)

Experience in Trauma Informed Care in a historical context to Hawai'i

Knowledge of DOE and its support systems

Teaching or tutoring experience

Able to handle high stress situations calmly

Minimum Skills and Qualification Requirements:

High School Diploma/GED

Able to lift 50 lbs (needed to do food and supplies shopping)

Basic computer and Internet skills

Valid Hawaii Driver's License

Clean Drivers Extract

Willingness to transport clients and instructors/mentors as needed using agency vehicles

Clearance of Criminal Background Checks

1 Year experience working with children

2 Professional References

Exceptional time management, problem solving, facilitation, and organizational skills

Flexible and adaptable

Ability to work both independently and in a close team environment

Ability to attend in-person youth programs that include outdoor activities

*Must already be living on Maui.
